Fantrax FPL previews – Gameweek 27 (Sunday)

Arsenal vs Southampton ⚽ 24/02/19 @ 2.05pm (GMT)

Team News πŸš‘

Arsenal

Much speculation surrounds whether Unai Emery will be tempted to rest star striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang with the North London derby on the horizon. Eyes of FPL managers will be fixed firmly on the Arsenal Twitter page at five minutes past one on Sunday to see whether their captain/first round pick gets the nod. Elsewhere, this is the sort of game where Emery does seem to trust the much maligned Mesut Ozil. He should start in the number 10 role while Ainsley Maitland Niles and Laurent Koscielny look to shake of illness and a knock respectively. Granit Xhaka seems to dominate set pieces nowadays, making him a decent differential.

Southampton

FPL managers and Southampton fans alike will have been bitterly disappointed with the home defeat at the hands of Cardiff City. A defensive stack of the Saints gigantic centre backs was an obvious play in GW26 but the Bluebirds struck twice to the suprise of most. Few will be employing similar tactics this week but Southampton’s attacking assets shouldn’t be ignored, particularly the dangerous set piece deliveries of James Ward Prowse and the trickery of Nathan Redmond. Danny Ings will miss out to the more industrious Shane Long.

Manchester United

It’s here! The big one. Ask a United fan which of their arch rivals they’d rather see lifting the Premier League trophy in May and they’d probably tell you they are a Tottenham fan for the next three months. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s revitalised will certainly have a say in the title race, starting this Sunday and they’ll be hoping their star FPL duo Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford can keep up their hot form. Solskjaer also “hopes and thinks” that injuries won’t keep Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard out of the big game, with more optimism over the former than the latter. Probably not a game to own defenders in…

Liverpool

This looks more like a “must not lose” than a “must win” game for the title chasing Reds. This fixture probably isn’t one that they would have picked to be their game in hand, however. Liverpool always expect to score, and rightly so, and that front three will still fancy themselves against a United defence that allowed PSG plenty of space in the last game at Old Trafford. Full backs Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander Arnold could be the key to breaking them down. It’s fair to say that Mo Salah is due a performance against Liverpool’s fiercest rivals. This one is too close to call but plenty of drama is guaranteed.

Star Performers ⭐

Manchester United – Paul Pogba: 365.5 points, 100% owned

Liverpool – Mo Salah: 417 points, 100% owned

Differential Picks 🎲

Manchester United – Ander Herrera: 140 points, 54% owned

Liverpool – Georginio Wijnaldum: 116.5 points, 44% owned

Set Piece Takers 🎯

Manchester United – Free Kicks and Corners: Ashley Young, Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw. Penalties: Paul Pogba.

Liverpool – Free Kicks and Corners: Trent Alexander Arnold, Mo Salah, James Milner, Jordan Henderson. Penalties: Mo Salah.
